Things To Do In New York

In 1789 New York became the first capital of the United States. It is believed by experts there are 800 different languages spoken in New York. The city got its name during the second Anglo-Dutch War, it was named in honor of the Duke of York who became King James II of England and James Vll of Scotland. New York is made up of 5 boroughs including Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island. It is also the largest city in the United States.

I have visited New York a few times, some of my favourite places in the city for photography are Manhattan Bridge, New York Courthouse and Times Square, I really liked the colourful neon lights at Times Square, they reminded me of something you would see in a movie.  You will often see Yellow School Buses, they have been around since 1939. One of the other symbols is the Yellow Taxi, they have been in the city since 1880s. In 1967, New York City ordered all "medallion taxis" be painted yellow. This was to help reduce unofficial drivers and make official taxicabs more readily recognizable. The taxis used to be red and green until Allen company repainted them yellow so they are more visible. New York has three main airports John F Kennedy, Guardia and Newark.
