Hounds On The Heath 2016

The Mayhew Animal Home hold their dog show once a year in aid of their charity, this year the event was in Hampstead Heath for the first time. There were lots of beautiful and adorable dogs to photograph at the show. They held a variety of classes including Sweetest Staffie, Most Handsome Staffie, Most Handsome Dog and Best Rescue. Some of the judges who were there on the day were Christiana from Hampstead Housesitters, Cally Jane and Lisa and her rescue Cavalier Lucy. They had different activities for your dogs to take part in including Tunnel Temptation and Agility.

One of the dogs I was excited to see at Hounds On The Heath was Bruno the Mini Dachshund, I fell in love with him at Crufts in March. It was also lovely to meet Lucy who was rescued from a Puppy Farm, she has a beautiful character despite everything she has been through, when she is tired she goes to sleep inside her favourite bag.

Their events are a good opportunity for you to meet some of the dogs from their TheraPaws Programme. One of the jobs they do is visit people who have dementia as they cannot have dogs of their own, being able to have these TheraPaws dogs visit them helps them to feel better for a while.

Even though it was a really windy day and some of the gazebos even got blown over, it was still an enjoyable event. The event raised an amazing £5000 which will go towards helping more of their dogs and cats who are looking for homes.

I used my Nikon D300s camera and Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 lens to photograph the event, it is my favourite lens for photographing dog events because of it's versatility.
